Shaker Hills Golf Club

Shaker Hills is far from the "new kid on the block" or NKOTB these days - I remember when it first opened back in 1991 - I was a bright eyed freshman at Boston University and word spread about this super high-end golf course in Harvard, MA (no relation to the university).  Fast forward 20 years, and Shaker is still going strong - and it's a relative bargain at $85 (including cart & range balls) in the $100+ range these days.  Importantly, I played recently (July 2010) and the pace of play was amazing - we teed off at 830AM and finished in 4 hrs (a rarity in Boston Golf), and were still hounded by the rangers (a good thing in my opinion).

The course layout is pretty interesting - with a lot of elevation changes, a fair amount of dog leg, some target golf - really a little of everything.  The course is pretty challenging from the tips - despite being 6800 yards, it's only a Par 71, but you better be driving it long and straight if you want to score here.

It's no longer the "Grand Dame" it used to be, but I'll still play Shaker any day.
